Health, Safety and Environment Manager | Sheffield | Full Time | Salary - competitive dependant on experience
Our client is the UK's leading forge master in the oil & gas industry and has recently acquired accreditations for the Nuclear and Aerospace industries. With 40 years' experience in forging, they are specialists in creating bespoke products using open die methods.
They currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health, Safety and Environment Manager. The main purpose of the role is to manage all aspects of the Companies HSE function in a proactive and inclusive manner.
Main Duties:
1. Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with the organisation's Health & Safety policy.
2. Formulate and adopt sound working systems, practices, and procedures that meet the company's standards and comply with statutory obligations.
3. Set a clear leadership example and promote a high degree of safety awareness among all employees.
4. Ensure that all employees receive appropriate H&S and plant training.
5. Chair Health & Safety Committee Meetings and attend annual Health and Safety Policy Meetings (Mgt reviews).
6. Attend Risk Insurance and Fire Audits, and participate in Audits as required.
7. Be the Management representative responsible for ensuring that the EMS is professionally maintained.
8. Carry out effective risk assessments.
9. Formulate and effectively communicate procedures to deal with any emergency situations.
10. Ensure that contractors engaged to work on company premises meet the standards set by the organisation and are monitored as appropriate.
11. Investigate, document, and follow up on all incidents, accidents, and dangerous occurrences.
12. Agree the organisation's detailed health and safety objectives in consultation with the safety committee.
13. Incorporate a formal plan of audits annually to support continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
14. Identify and co-ordinate the training needs of the HSE team to ensure job competency, flexibility, and up-to-date knowledge of the latest thinking.
15. Maintain knowledge of up-to-date best practice in HSE standards.
16. Manage HSE/PPE budget responsibility.
17. Drive employees to take responsibility for a very safe, clean, and tidy work environment.
Ideal Candidate:
1. Previous experience of a similar role in a heavy engineering/manufacturing environment is essential.
2. NEBOSH General Health and Safety Certificate, NEBOSH Environmental or IEMA Environmental and IOSH Managing Safely training is essential.
3. Excellent people management skills.
4. Exceptional communication skills with people at all levels, both written and verbal.
5. Proven and effective Project Management skills.
6. An excellent understanding of ISO 45001 and 14001 Management systems.
7. An effective decision maker with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
8. IT literate.
9. Ability to work on own initiative.
