Here at the World-famous Wellcome Sanger Institute, we have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, organised individual with a passion for problem-solving to join the Cellular Genetics Programme as a Research Manager.
This crucial role assists our Faculty and their teams in delivering their cutting-edge research by providing efficient, professional and diligent operational and administrative support. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a range of internal stakeholders across the Institute, including Faculty, Legal and Governance, Grants and HR, in addition to a wide array of external collaborators, funders and other partners.

Key responsibilities:
1. Providing comprehensive operational and research management support to the Head of Programme, Faculty and Associate Faculty members of the Cellular Genetics Programme, enabling them to deliver their ambitious scientific goals.
2. Managing the Faculty’s Research portfolios, including grant and budget management.
3. Providing effective research management support by working closely with the governance and legal teams to obtain, manage and maintain appropriate ethical and legal approvals for collections of human or non-human material for research, specific to projects.
4. Working with and helping to maintain the project management tools within the team, such as Asana, and other records.
About You
You will be an efficient, self-motivated and energetic individual who can work independently in a dynamic environment with flexibility, adjusting to varying priorities and finding solutions to challenges that arise.
The ability to build effective relationships with members of the Institute and external partners at all levels is essential.
Your personal qualities will include professionalism, personal drive, trustworthiness and the ability to work collaboratively and facilitate effective communication between various stakeholders.
Strong project management and time management skills, as well as experience in handling budgets and producing high-quality financial and administrative detail for grant applications, reports and other briefing materials, will be advantageous.
Technical Skills:
1. Previous scientific experience or qualification
2. Previous experience working in a science Programme or equivalent environment
3. Previous experience in coordinating briefing materials across a range of subjects
4. Experience in producing, managing, and reporting on budgets
5. Knowledge and understanding of scientific third-party funding
6. Ability to apply project management methodology as required
7. Exceptional organiser with the ability to prioritise and manage workload
8. Good understanding of the governance and regulation of the use of human samples
9. Excellent IT skills, including Excel
10. Well-developed negotiating and influencing skills
11. Ability to write and structure reports
12. Excellent attention to detail
Salary: £41,000 - £49,000 depending on skills and experience.
Closing Date: Sunday 1st December
Contract duration: 2-year fixed term.
