We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced risk practitioner to join our People Function Risk & Control team. You and your team will be leading the implementation of our Society risk frameworks and associated standards, whilst championing the benefits of risk management.
You’ll be an effective manager, passionate about our people agenda and driving an effective risk culture. You’ll work with senior stakeholders to translate risk management and framework requirements into a format that everyone can understand, simplifying difficult concepts and influencing across the People Function to help us effectively manage risk and controls.
You and your team will support the People Function, manage our risk profile, recovery framework, policy and regulatory changes. We’re looking for a strategic thinker who can help connect the dots across the Function and get involved with risk management for those things that matter most to our colleagues and the Society. You will also be involved in horizon scanning, Society-wide people risk management and provide key risk and control updates to the senior leadership team and committees.
This role sits within the People Function and our aspiration is to create the most capable workforce, driving a high-performing, customer first, inclusive culture where everyone can thrive.
This role is a key part of our People Strategy Delivery team which ensures that our Function is delivering against our Blueprint commitments whilst effectively managing risk and controls. Our team offers a fantastic level of variety and visibility of activity across our people agenda, with the chance to get involved in a wide range of projects.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or Northampton office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be managing a team of passionate risk and control professionals, a trusted advisor to senior leadership team members and a “go-to” person in our Function to support with risk and control management.
You’ll manage our risk profile, help improve our own people risk policy and monitor changes to other risk policies and regulation, including their application to People Function processes.
With the team, you’ll support risk assessments and compliance with regulatory requirements, drawing conclusions from risk information and highlighting implications to business operations.
You’ll be aware of how people risk translates across the Society and work with other Functions to manage this effectively.

What makes us different
Nationwide is the world’s largest building society. With over 15 million customers, we have a relationship with almost a quarter of the UK’s population. We’ve got the scale to compete with the big banks, but we’re not a bank.
As a building society, we’re owned by our members – that’s our customers who have their current account, mortgage or savings with us. It means we can do things differently to deliver our Purpose – Banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society.
When you work at Nationwide, you can experience that difference for yourself. You’ll be part of a high-performing, purpose-driven organisation that offers rewarding career experiences and a highly competitive range of benefits to match.
