The Recipe
To own and lead the process of managing all Warburtons packaging print quality and colour consistency, ensuring that the brand is not unintentionally compromised, and that the artwork specification and agreed costs are achieved and packaging is printed and available to agreed timescales. Liaising with key internal stakeholders and external repro/origination providers, ink manufacturers and packaging supplier and printers to deliver our requirements.
You will be based in our dedicated Research and Innovation Centre in Bolton, where our creative teams have access to cutting edge technology to help them create and bake the next big thing!
Key Accountabilities and Measures
1. To manage the print and colour management process of all packaging designs from plate making through to attending press passes and managing post print quality control. Ensure that the produced packaging meet Warburtons’ visual standards and are accurate and all relevant documentation is in place, correct and communicated to all relevant parties.
2. To manage the relationship with printers to ensure that all relevant pre-press materials and information are in place, so that print runs are carried out at the relevant time, to the agreed standard and packaging is available for call off as required. Attend all press passes (as required) to ensure colour standards are set and signed post press for on-going visual quality control and measurement by the printer and checked in the colour management / approval system in place.
3. Define and implement colour management software and processes into the business. Create and own the colour management process to enable digital dashboards to be used and reports to be created for the Head of Packaqing to demonstrate colour consistency across our packaging estate.
4. To represent print and colour management at pre-press meetings in conjunction with the Artwork and Origination Manager to advise on all aspects of the packaging production process.
5. To work with the Artwork & Origination manager to manage our colour library, ensuring that it is integrated completely throughout our origination and print, there is consistency across substrates, printers and designs and the number of different colours and volume of ink in use is reduced where possible.
6. To ensure that packaging suppliers understand that they are responsible for meeting our print quality & colour, always matching visually against standards.
7. Regularly review packaging quality post print to ensure regular QC checks are made across our portfolio and colour and print quality are assessed, any inconsistencies are recorded, discussed and feedback to our printed packaging suppliers.
8. Present all opportunities for savings, technical advancements, process improvements or development ideas to the wider packaging team for consideration.
