The role will be offered on a secondment basis.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who can produce results in a challenging environment. As Lead Smoking Cessation Coordinator, you will be supported by the Tobacco Dependency Service Lead.
The Trust is committed to encouraging and supporting smokers, who access our services, to stop smoking. We recognise that tobacco dependency is a chronic, relapsing, clinical condition that prematurely kills at least half of the people who smoke. Smoking is a medical condition, not a lifestyle choice.
To effectively deliver this intervention, the successful candidate will need excellent communication, motivational and organisational skills, and work as part of a smoking cessation coordination team. The Lead Smoking Cessation Coordinator will report to the Tobacco Dependency Service Lead. Working under unsupervised guidance, the Lead Smoking cessation Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the Smoking Cessation Coordinators engage with smokers attending the hospital's Accident and Emergency Department, motivate smokers to stop smoking and facilitate referral to community smoking cessation services, ensuring effective transfer of care.
Some weekend work may be required in the future, on a rota basis (to be confirmed).
There is one full time post available. We would be happy to speak to staff who would consider a secondment.
PLEASE NOTE THIS VACANCY IS RELATED TO EXTERNAL AND FIXED-TERM FUNDING.
The post holder will take a prominent role to support the implementation of the Smoking Cessation Coordination Team within the Trust’s accident and emergency department, under the direction of the Tobacco Dependency Service Lead. This will include:
1. Leading the Smoking Cessation Coordinators within the Trust, including the development and implementation of policies and guidance.
2. Providing tobacco dependency interventions and advice to patients.
3. Supporting the development and delivery of very brief advice (VBA) training for Trust staff.
4. Contributing to the wider role of the team in the promotion, development, monitoring and evaluation of the Smoking Cessation Coordination Team.
5. Providing specialist tobacco harm reduction interventions including smoking cessation brief advice and behavioural support directly to patients.
6. Supporting the development and delivery of training for the Trust’s Smoking Cessation Coordinators, clinical and non-clinical staff throughout the Trust.
7. Providing day to day supervision for the Trust’s Smoking Cessation Coordinators.
8. Working collaboratively with the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure person-centred, robust care planning and delivery.
9. Contributing to the work with the Trust’s Communications and Engagement teams to develop and promote internal communications around the programme.
10. Ensuring appropriate data collection to support clinical care and monitoring of the service is undertaken and reported as required by Walsall Public Health and NHSE.
11. Contributing to the evaluation and ensuring continuous quality development and improvement of the service, including an annual service review, gathering information to support the Trust’s Annual Report.
12. Attending Trust meetings, if required.
13. Representing the Trust by contributing to and participating in meetings locally, regionally and nationally where appropriate, relating to the speciality.
14. Acting as a role model to others and upholding the Trust’s vision and values.
