The post holder will work within the multi-professional team to provide safe and appropriate management of children and young people attending the children’s outpatient’s department. They will have responsibility for providing specialist nursing skills, knowledge and expertise in the care and management of children and young people and provide leadership to junior colleagues. They will support and deputise for the children’s outpatient’s manager, assisting with sickness and performance management, and participate in audit, research and the development of the nurse led service.
The post holder will be an advocate for children and their families, promoting child focussed, family-centred care. The post holder will act as a role model in the delivery of patient care and support and teach staff contributing to the development of the service. They will identify specific needs in education of patients, relatives and staff and facilitate meeting these requirements while offering an individualised service that respects the many cultural and spiritual backgrounds of our families.
1. To ensure that their clinical practice, and that of other staff on shift, is of a safe standard and in accordance with Trust policies.
2. Assist with the provision of child centred care that incorporates the needs of children of all ages and stages of development.
3. Lead and develop the nurse led service in the department, actively engaging appropriate patient groups that can be seen in a nurse led capacity.
4. Be able to support clinics, alongside other members of the nursing and consultant team and communicate condition-related information to the child and family.
5. Be able to accurately perform venepuncture, cannulation, patient observations, ECGs and complete relevant competencies to support the wider specialist team for example, be able to support allergy challenges and accurately measure lung function.
6. To facilitate the opportunities for department-based training which is dynamic and meets the educational needs of staff.
