The Opportunity Technical Lines Senior Construction Engineer, COG We require an experienced Engineer to provide professional engineering advice to our Technical Lines underwriting teams, with the aim of improving underwriting profitability and assisting in portfolio development and new business opportunities. Working with underwriters and interacting with clients and brokers. The role will have a global scope and will be based in London or Madrid reporting to the Global Head of Technical Lines Risk Engineering. The main responsibility is to provide timely succinct and technically advanced engineering advice to underwriters with regard to technical risks of construction of Industrial Facilities in compliance with CHUBB Technical Lines Engineering processes and best practices. Your Responsibilities for this role may include, but are not limited to: In this role, effective and objective communication is essential for providing risk management advice based on thorough evaluations of risk exposures and loss estimates. Key responsibilities include Develop DeskTop Reviews for large and complex industrial construction projects worldwide, ensuring adherence to CHUBB Technical Lines Engineering best practices. Collaborate with regional engineers to conduct peer reviews Conduct on-site visits to large and complex industrial construction projects to monitor progress, gather pertinent risk information, and offer recommendations to insured parties for mitigating risk exposure. Review site visit reports from regional engineers to ensure accuracy and completeness Design and implement tools that leverage knowledge, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness to provide optimal solutions for managing and reducing financial risks associated with CHUBB's portfolio Evaluate significant losses in industrial construction projects within CHUBB's portfolio, collaborating with regional engineers to assess smaller losses. Ensure that relevant data is accurately uploaded to the loss database for ongoing analysis Provide support and training for risk engineers and senior underwriters to enhance their expertise and effectiveness in risk assessment Continuously enhance engineering knowledge and resources within areas of expertise to stay current with industry practices and standards. Develop and improve communication effectiveness and manage relationships with clients, brokers, and the insurance market, to maintain CHUBB’s credibility as a leading professional and ethical insurer. Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team and streamline workflow management processes Broaden your knowledge base beyond core competencies to support underwriting functions through ongoing education and training, enhancing overall team performance. What skills & experience are required? A qualified engineer, preferably holding a degree in Civil Engineering or Industrial Engineering A minimum of fifteen years of hands-on engineering experience, preferably including experience as a site manager, in the construction of heavy industries, particularly in Power Generation and/or Oil and Gas projects, with progressive responsibility in construction, commissioning, and management across a diverse range of technologies and projects. Experience in insurance engineering with a recognized lead insurer or reinsurer is advantageous. Excellent communication and negotiation skills to facilitate effective interactions with clients, brokers, and stakeholders. Capable of working independently as well as collaborating effectively as part of a team. Enthusiasm for facing new challenges, particularly in engagements with large multinational clients A team player with flexible, communicative, and personable approach to work. A keen interest in engineering subjects, with an appreciation for the business environment and ethical considerations Proficiency in English is essential; knowledge of additional languages such as Spanish or others, is beneficial.
