About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Deputy Care Home Manager to join our team at a 15-bed care home that primarily cares for residents with dementia. As the Deputy Care Home Manager, you will work closely with the Care Home Manager to ensure the efficient running of the home, providing high-quality care to all residents while maintaining a supportive, welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist the Care Home Manager: Provide leadership and support in the day-to-day management of the home, ensuring all operational procedures are followed.
• Staff Management: Supervise and support a team of care staff, ensuring they have the required training and resources to deliver outstanding care. Oversee staff performance and assist with recruitment and induction processes.
• Resident Care: Assist in the delivery of high-quality person-centered care for all residents, ensuring dignity and respect are maintained at all times. You will help to monitor and assess care plans, ensuring they meet individual needs, particularly for residents with dementia.
• Staff Training and Development: Maintain and update staff training matrix, including mandatory training records (e.g., care training, DBS checks, and other compliance matters). Ensure that all staff receive the necessary training and support to continue to develop their skills and knowledge.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the home adheres to all relevant legislation and quality standards, including CQC guidelines, and assist with inspections and audits as needed.
• Health & Safety: Ensure that the care home operates within health and safety regulations, and that risks are assessed and mitigated. Oversee medication management and ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
• Reporting: Update and maintain accurate records, including staff training and development, as well as residents’ care plans and daily logs. Use Excel and other IT systems to manage, update, and monitor various matrices for staff training, DBS, and other compliance requirements.
• Communication: Maintain strong communication with residents, their families, and all other stakeholders, ensuring that concerns and needs are promptly addressed. Provide regular updates to the Care Home Manager.
Skills & Experience Required
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a senior care role, ideally in a dementia care setting.
• Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support a team of care staff.
• Computer Skills: Proficient in the use of computers, with experience in Excel and other software applications for updating and managing staff training matrices, DBS records, and other essential documentation.
• Knowledge of Dementia Care: A good understanding of dementia and the ability to provide empathetic care for residents with dementia-related conditions.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with CQC requirements and relevant legislation related to care homes.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including families, healthcare professionals, and regulatory bodies.
• Organizational Skills: Ability to work independently and efficiently, managing time and tasks effectively.
Qualifications
• NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (minimum), with a desire to work towards NVQ Level 5 or equivalent managerial qualification.
• A valid DBS check and up-to-date safeguarding training.
