This role is being advertised by Brightwork who are recruiting for our client in Edinburgh and we require a Temporary Caretaker / Facilities Assistant for our client's site based in Edinburgh.
Hours of work are 37 hours per week. This role is shift based so there may also be a requirement for occasional evening/weekend work.
Key Responsibilities of the Role:
1. Undertake routine checks and maintenance of the site heating and hot water facility, monitoring and managing the boiler settings via the Business Management System (BMS). Manage the programs for the various electric panel heaters present on the site.
2. Liaise with specialist contractors ensuring all works are carried out as per specification and report any defects to the Estates & Facilities Manager.
3. Ensure all areas are set up and maintained on a daily basis, monitor the bookings calendar and ensure all corporate areas are set up as required.
4. Assist with setting up ICT equipment when required.
5. Monitor and assist with maintaining the building fabric and decoration of the site, reporting any defects to the Estates & Facilities Manager.
6. In consultation with the Estates & Facilities Manager, liaise with contractors to ensure that health and safety standards are addressed.
7. Liaise with all staff regarding the operation and maintenance of the buildings and services, investigating reported issues and ensuring all defects are recorded and repairs are dealt with in a timely manner.
8. Represent the best interests of the site in internal and external meetings as required.
9. As Deputy Fire Warden, undertake and record weekly system tests on the fire detection system, check all fire escape routes, and assist with periodic fire evacuation drills.
10. Undertake out of hours duties on an established monthly standby rota basis including fulfilling the duties of a key holder.
11. Have flexibility to cover other shift patterns during periods of annual leave or sickness.
12. Oversee external contractors as directed by the Estates & Facilities Manager.
13. Liaise with prospective Business Park tenants and monitor tenant lease compliance, securing monthly electric meter readings from each unit.
14. Investigate issues reported by business park tenants and ensure they are dealt with in a timely manner.
15. Report to the Estates & Facilities Manager any maintenance issues relating to college buildings, grounds, and business park.
16. Undertake any other appropriate duties as directed by the Estates & Facilities Manager.
Essential Skills for this Role:
* Experience in the building services industry.
* Knowledge/competency in electrical work, central heating systems, and DIY skills.
* High level of maintenance and repair skills.
Desirable Skills:
* Knowledge of Health & Safety.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to use own initiative and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* A high level of adaptability to cover unsociable hours including weekends, split shifts, early mornings, and evenings.
