The Mechanic II is responsible for maintenance of fleet equipment and trucks. This position requires all trucks and equipment to be kept in good working order, organizing necessary repairs to keep equipment and trucks working consistently in the field.

Essential Functions:

Roles and Responsibilities:
* Diagnose faults and malfunctions of truck and equipment in a timely fashion.
* Perform necessary repairs or replacements to maintain working order of all trucks and equipment.
* Completes DOT Annual Inspections and Preventive Maintenance on vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
* Overhauls and repairs, clutch systems, brake systems, charging systems starter systems, cooling system, exhaust systems, electrical systems and other major components of vehicles and equipment.
* Keeps detailed paperwork both manually and electronically concerning repairs and maintenance.
* Makes recommendations, based on expertise, concerning repair or replacement of equipment and vehicles.
* Responds to requests for repairs, scheduled and unscheduled in a timely fashion.
* Does repair work in the field, as well as in the shop during all weather conditions.
* Responsible for ensuring that service truck is well stocked with necessary items to effectively repair trucks and equipment in the field when necessary, by identifying source of mechanical failure.
* Proficiency in creating, reading, and understanding repair order software
* Lube Technician competency amongst all Track equipment categories
* Experience and competency to complete Annual DOT inspection amongst all on-road Track equipment (minimum 1-year experience)
* Ability to diagnose standard mechanical and electrical problems as well as damage and safety defects
* Brakes and chassis work
* Basic 12V Electrical
* Basic Hydraulics
Success Factors:
* Skilled in the repair of light duty vehicles, heavy duty vehicles, heavy equipment, small engines, hydro excavators, and specialized construction equipment.
* Skilled in repair and/or replacement of electrical systems, hydraulic systems, engine repair, clutch work, differentials and air systems.
* Ability to use computer-based vehicle and equipment electronic diagnosis software.
* Ability to weld with MIG and Stick welding process.
* Ability to function under time constraints.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Ability to work unsupervised and prioritize work as necessary.
* Good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
* Must be able to work in fast paced environment
Experience and Education:
* High School diploma or GED.
* Minimum of 4-6 years working as a Line Mechanic (may substitute graduation from an automotive or diesel training program for some of the experience).
* Must have own tools.
* CDL-A is preferred
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
* Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
* Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
