Job overview
This is a new post for an Old Age consultant psychiatrist to provide medical input into the community Treatment Team located in Cumbria. The post holder will work along with a multidisciplinary team covering the old people's population in North-Cumbria. The post holder will provide senior clinical expertise in the assessment and treatment of individuals with complex mental health problems and what are termed as at-risk mental states.

Main duties of the job
This is a full-time substantive Consultant post providing senior clinical and leadership input within the Old Age Community Treatment Team. Post holder would be expected to work alongside other experienced consultants, nurses and other members of the MDT covering the working this population in the West of Cumbria. The post-holder is expected to:
1. Participate in the engagement, assessment, diagnosis and formulation of patients referred to the CTT.
2. Be committed to delivering excellence in clinical care.
3. Work effectively with the multidisciplinary community team and in-patient teams.
4. Promote the safety and well-being of the patients we serve.
5. To respect the rights and the dignity of patients.
6. To consider the individual and cultural needs of patients.
7. To work with families and carers in the best interest of the patient (in line with the Trust Carers' Charter).

Qualifications/Eligibility
Essential criteria
* MBBS (or equivalent)
* Registration with GMC (or eligible to become registered) with a licence to practice.
* Included on GMC Specialist Register (Old Age Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion or included within six months of CCT/CESR.
* Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 OR able to achieve within three months of appointment.
* Approved Clinician Status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment.
Desirable criteria
* MRCPsych
* Possess a CCT/CESR in Psychiatry
* Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
* Has undergone training in educational supervision.
* Has undergone training in appraisal.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Up to date knowledge in the relevant field of Psychiatry.
* Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation.
Desirable criteria
* An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working
* Wide clinical experience in old age psychiatry in different clinical settings.
* Experience of Clinical Audit.
Desirable criteria
* Experience in multi-agency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies.
* Experience in service management or development.
Skills
Essential criteria
* High level of clinical skills.
* Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in the older age population.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner.
* Excellent teaching skills.
Desirable criteria
* Established ability as a clinical teacher.
* Established record of clinical leadership.
* Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g. a brief form of psychological therapy.
