Hybrid Your primary responsibility is to deliver comprehensive legal support to the Chief Constables, officers, staff, and Police and Crime Commissioners (OPCC). Reporting to Senior Legal Advisors, the role involves providing both tactical and strategic legal advice on diverse issues. You will work across the Legal Services Department’s three teams: Litigation, Operations, and Vulnerability, requiring expertise to handle a broad range of legal matters within each area. Key Responsibilities: Advise and influence decision-making at all organizational levels, including the Chief Constable, Police and Crime Commissioner, and Executive members. Research and provide legal guidance on contentious and non-contentious issues, including high-profile and high-risk matters. Manage a diverse and complex caseload. Contribute to strategic boards to identify and mitigate legal risks. Represent the Chief Constable in legal proceedings, including Civil Litigation, Employment Tribunals, Inquests, misconduct hearings, Family Court, and Civil Preventative Orders. Offer tactical legal advice on police operations. Direct internal and external teams to ensure comprehensive legal service and the delivery of problem-solving initiatives. Key requirements: LLB (Hons) degree to second standard (or another degree to upper second standard if CPE has been passed with commendation). Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CFILEX. A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of legal principles, legislation, case law, legal systems and police law. Experience of handling contentious matters generally. Research and investigative skills with high attention to detail. Ability to manage a considerable and diverse caseload providing clear advice. Ability to work in a highly pressurised environment and to be able to offer flexibility and advice within time constraints. Demonstrable ability to work effectively as part of a team.
