We are seeking an experienced Site Services Manager to oversee the operations of our large-scale anaerobic digestion effluent treatment plant at a leading food manufacturing facility. This critical role ensures compliance with environmental regulations, maintains efficient plant performance, and safeguards our commitment to sustainability.
The plan spans 6 acres, discharges treated water to a watercourse and requires expertise in liaising with the Environment Agency (EA) and adhering to strict legal standards. Combined site footprint is in excess of 35 acres, the role will also incorporate boiler house with separate engineers looking after our x6 boilers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the site stays within our permitted consent levels
2. Oversee a team of 15
3. Point of call for Environment Agencies communication and governing audits.
4. Communication with Site Engineering Manager
5. Document keeping
6. Understanding of V5 of the environmental agency permit requirements.
Operational Management:
7. Oversee daily operations, maintenance, and optimisation of the anaerobic digestion (AD) plant and associated infrastructure.
8. Ensure efficient treatment of effluent to meet EA discharge consent limits and environmental permits.
9. Monitor biogas production, sludge management, and discharge quality.
10. Manage a team of technicians, engineers, and contractors.
11. Oversee boiler hour and all legal requirements.
12. Oversee all building fabric work and maintenance along with drainage.
Regulatory Compliance:
13. Ensure full compliance with Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) working to V5 and EA guidelines, and other mandatory legal requirements.
14. Prepare and submit regulatory reports (e.g., discharge monitoring, incident reporting).
15. Lead EA audits and inspections; address findings promptly
Health & Safety:
16. Implement and enforce safety protocols (e.g., COSHH, DSEAR) for hazardous environments.
17. Conduct risk assessments and emergency drills.
Stakeholder Engagement:
18. Act as primary contact for the Environment Agency, local authorities, and internal stakeholders.
19. Collaborate with R&D and sustainability teams to reduce environmental impact.
Budget & Projects:
20. Manage operational budgets and cost-saving initiatives
21. Lead capital projects (e.g., systems upgrades, process improvements etc.)
Environmental Stewardship:
22. Develop strategies to minimize carbon footprint and enhance sustainability
23. Investigate and resolve non-conformance (.e.g., discharge breaches).
Role Requirements Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:
24. Time served ETP Engineer with either Electrical or Mechanical qualification.
25. 5+ years managing anaerobic digestion/effluent treatment plants in food/pharma sectors.
26. In depth knowledge of EA regulations and environmental permitting.
27. Proficiency in SCADA systems and process control software.
28. Strong leadership experience with technical teams.
