An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Audiology Department of Broomfield Hospital, for an enthusiastic and well-motivated, person to join the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust Audiology service. The post is part time (26 hours per week)
The successful candidate will support the Audiology service by performing hearing aid repairs, stock control and answering patient's enquiries.
We are a super friendly team that will support you in our busy but fun working environment. You will be expected to work across three sites, Broomfield Braintree Community Hospital and St Peters Hospital (Maldon), so a willingness to travel is essential.
The post starts as a Band 2 and will progress to a Band 3 once competencies have been met.
As a member of the Audiology Team, assist qualified Audiology staff in delivering a caring and effective, patient focused service in keeping with the aims, objectives, and standards of the Trust
To provide hearing aid repairs, advice, and guidance in daily repair clinics
Assist with the maintenance of a safe care environment including preparing and clearing rooms and equipment with reference to infection control and safe working environment for patients, visitors, and staff
Information is handled and exchanged with care, accuracy, and sensitivity, always maintaining patient confidentiality
Effective communication is maintained within the team and between other care teams, patients, relatives, and visitors

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Audiologist (once competencies have been met) would be expected to perform without direct supervision:
Take aural impressions, fit and modify ear moulds
Routine follow up checks and advise on environmental aids
Repairs to hearing aids
Re instruction / counselling with respect to hearing aids
Referrals to other agencies – Hearing Therapy, RNID, RAD, Social Services and Hearing Help Essex
Home visits for the above techniques
Remote clinics for the above techniques
Clerical duties as required
Annual Stock check
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Undertakes all aspects of analogue and digital hearing aid repairs for both adults and children
Instructing and advising patients on the use and care of hearing aids
Checking patients ears for wax, infections, or any other abnormalities
Taking impressions of patient’s ears (for over 5 years of age)
Fitting and modifying earmoulds
Assisting the Audiologists when testing young children
Despatching and receipting of ear moulds
To do home visits for the above techniques when the patient is house bound
Attend outreach clinic
Refer patients to other agencies (R.A.D, Hearing Help Essex)
ADMINISTRATIVE
Cross referencing of referrals, checking/ amending/updating demographics on Lorenzo and Auditbase systems
Dealing with the enquires from the departments Audiology email account
Booking, cancelling or rearranging patient appointments on Lorenzo and Auditbase system
Liaising with health clinics to supply batteries to the local population
Scanning and photocopying as required
Opening and distributing the post
Using the Auditbase stock module to book in ear moulds
Ensure detailed and accurate patient records and reports are kept
Ensure appropriate other professional received relevant information and reports
Maintaining stock levels including ordering, unpacking, checking delivery notes, completion of paperwork and putting stock away
GENERAL DUTIES
Ability to work effectively without direct supervision
Ability to work calmly and methodically when under pressure from a busy and varied workload
Demonstrate an understating of the importance of confidentiality in dealing with patient detail and work in a confidential manner
Ability to carry out duties of the post with due regard the Trusts policy on equal opportunities
