We are seeking to appoint a Head of Engagement to support us in our ambitions for continuous engagement and help us to listen to the diverse voices of our communities across mid and west Wales.
This is an exciting opportunity for an engagement professional who values the voices of our patients, staff, partners, and broader communities and has a passion for ensuring that we create opportunities for our population to participate in shaping the services that deliver health care in their area.
Working within a changing and challenging environment, we are looking for an individual who can lead our Engagement Team to deliver on our long-term strategy, and who can establish themselves, and the team, as experts in engagement, providing advice and solutions to the wider organisation and with partners that we work alongside.
Main duties of the job
To succeed in this post you will need to:
1. Develop effective engagement and consultation strategies and frameworks.
2. Lead a programme of continuous engagement and participatory decision making on all the key priority areas and service changes.
3. Provide the public with a range of opportunities to use their voice and get involved in their NHS here in Hywel Dda so that they can shape, own and improve it.
Together with the team that you lead, you will design, develop and implement innovative participatory engagement approaches. In doing so, you will make full use of traditional and new methods of engagement and involvement to engage patients, carers, staff, stakeholders, and the public to build public confidence in the organisation and involve them in designing services and strategies.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
* Educated to Masters Level or equivalent level of work experience including practical knowledge and experience of methods and approaches as they relate to public and patient engagement.
* Evidence of higher or further education with the appropriate professional/management qualifications.
* Highly developed in-depth specialist knowledge and experience of communications and engagement.
* Expert knowledge of health and public practices, as well as a thorough understanding of local and national political networks and infrastructure.
* Knowledge and expertise on the various tools and techniques of public and patient engagement including participatory decision making and other models, tools and techniques.
* Demonstrable CPD.
Desirable
* Certificate of Professional Development / Advanced Practitioner qualification in Consultation and Engagement.
* Post Graduate Diploma (ILM 5 or 7) in Leadership and Management.
* Detailed knowledge of the legislation governing statutory consultation.
* Understanding of Welsh legislation and WG delegated powers.
Experience
Essential
* Ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries in an atmosphere of change/complex structures and partnership working.
* Ability to lead controversial public and patient engagement using a variety of techniques which have resulted in real involvement and participation from a range of key stakeholders, the public, patients and staff.
* Experience of project management.
Desirable
* Experience of public and patient engagement in a large public sector organisation.
* Large scale public engagement and consultation experience.
* World cafe, planning for real, citizen jury and other facilitation methods.
