To provide nursing services to the patient population by assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. To ensure the provision of a high-quality patient service within a safe, efficient working environment by providing effective support to the Partners and staff, and encouraging the development and progress of Wigan GP Alliance.
Maintaining appropriate records to ensure continuity and quality of care for patients. To collaborate with other team members on development and delivery within Wigan GP Alliance. To be involved in service development, identifying developments in line with clinical needs locally and work to develop these. Maintaining records of appointments and other administrative duties. To maintain skills and undertake such training and development as may from time-to-time be required to maintain personal competency.
Location: Wigan GP Alliance sites; however, you may be asked to travel to other sites as required.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Job Role
Specific Duties:
1. To provide assessment, treatment, screening, health education services, and advice working in accordance with the NMC Code of conduct.
2. Provide nursing treatments to patients independently or in participation with other clinical colleagues working to agreed protocols and guidelines.
3. Provide general and specific health screenings to the patients within agreed protocols and guidelines, referring to other members of the clinical team as necessary.
4. To manage patients with chronic diseases; running specific clinic sessions and maintaining robust call and recall systems.
5. Participate in national screening work such as cervical cytology and meet targets delivering the national immunisation and vaccination schedule.
6. Nursing procedures to include:
1. Wound management
2. Phlebotomy
3. Measuring blood pressure
4. Routine injections as prescribed
5. Cervical smears
6. ECGs
7. Ear syringing
8. Vaccinations and immunisations
9. Assisting with minor surgery and IUCD insertion
7. Provide advice to patients for general health care and minor ailments, with referral to another clinician as necessary.
8. To participate in research within the organisation.
9. To be responsible for the efficient running of the treatment rooms and equipment.
10. To assist with the management of leg ulcers.
11. Select, carry out, and interpret results of specific tests.
12. Ensure all statutory regulations (e.g. infection control, Health & Safety, COSHH, etc.) are implemented and adhered to.
13. To maintain accurate, comprehensive records of all consultations and treatments in the patients' notes, both written and computerized.
14. Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the organisation.
15. Ensure collection of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.
16. To have working knowledge of equipment used in the service.
17. Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality at all times in line with current legislation.
18. Contribute to the development of new patient services.
19. Inform your line manager of any reported or suspected failings in the provision of care within the Practice.
