Construction Manager (Site, Commercial and Pre-Construction)
Leap29 have a fantastic opportunity available as Construction Manager for utility scale solar sites across the UK. The Construction Manager is likely to come from a Commercial Manager, Contract Manager, or Quantity Surveyor background and will take over from project development and oversee pre-construction activities.
Our client is a leading independent renewable energy company, operating over 1 GW of assets in 20 countries with excellent growth ambitions. The Construction Manager will oversee the delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects.
Essential qualities of the successful candidate include:
1. Construction Manager / Site Manager / Project Manager experience
2. Commercial, Contracts or Quantity Surveyor experience
3. Ability to take projects from pre-construction stage and liaise with the Project Development team
4. Relationship with landowners
5. Familiarity with EPC/O&M tendering (potentially multi-contracts), Tender Documents and Offers, and Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering contracts
6. Procurement experience
7. Ability to lead the owner's management during the construction phase
8. Site management and Project Management expertise
9. Proven experience managing large-scale solar farm construction projects
10. Strong knowledge of UK construction practices, regulations, and standards, including CDM compliance
11. Excellent leadership, coordination, and problem-solving skills
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Coordination
1. Develop the Construction Phase Plan in collaboration with subcontractors, detailing schedules and milestones
2. Coordinate logistics with contractors and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment
3. Conduct pre-construction site assessments and manage site setup, including temporary facilities, access roads, and laydown areas
Site Management
1. Lead and manage on-site subcontractor teams, ensuring efficient workflows and timely completion
2. Oversee all construction activities, including:
1. Groundworks, trenching, and structure installation
2. Module mounting and electrical works
3. Site reinstatement and final handover
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
1. Collaborate with Engineering to develop the Risk Register during pre-construction and ensure a smooth handover to the construction phase
2. Act as Principal Contractor, ensuring full compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental regulations, including CDM regulations
3. Implement and enforce health & safety plans, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS)
4. Promote a strong safety culture, conducting regular toolbox talks, site inspections, and incident reporting
Quality Assurance & Reporting
1. Ensure all work is delivered to the highest standards and in line with Employer Requirements and industry best practices
2. Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager, including cost tracking and risk assessments
Resource Management
1. Monitor project progress, identifying and addressing potential overruns
2. Optimize resource allocation across manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency
