We have recently become a Delivery Partner for the Environment Agency’s latest framework, aiming to better understand climate change impacts and flood risks in England. Under the 2024 Mapping and Modelling Framework, AtkinsRéalis will provide survey, mapping, modelling, incident management, hydrological, and other professional services to assist in climate event planning. This significant programme will enhance the Environment Agency’s understanding of climate change effects and help reduce flooding risks, including vital community response efforts.

Role: Lead hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects.
Expertise: Proficiency in 1D and 2D modelling for rivers, surface water, and coastal areas.

AtkinsRéalis is a major engineering, environmental, and design consultancy offering opportunities for talented professionals to work on diverse projects at various scales. Our ongoing projects include flood risk management, natural flood management, flood forecasting, and water resource management, with frameworks supporting work for the Environment Agency and local authorities in the UK, as well as international projects worldwide.
Requirements:
We are looking for Associate consultants, engineers, and modelers with experience in flood risk projects, especially hydraulic modelling. You should be capable of leading technical work and mentoring junior team members, building strong client relationships, and working collaboratively.
* Extensive experience in flood risk analysis for strategy, planning, development, or design, with proven project delivery.
* Proficiency in 1D-2D modelling tools like Infoworks ICM, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW/ESTRY, or HEC-RAS; GIS skills with ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS; desirable experience with FEH hydrological assessment and UK hydrology.
* Some leadership experience in developing and leading technical teams.
* Ability to make robust decisions based on available data.
Chartered status is valued, and we support professional development and memberships with mentoring and funding opportunities. Civil engineering design experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Responsibilities:
* Conduct hydraulic modelling, data analysis, GIS, and technical reporting, ensuring quality assurance.
* Manage and supervise junior staff, support project managers, and actively progress projects.
* Work effectively within teams, collaborating with scientists, engineers, and planners, providing integrated client services.
* Support business development, including tendering and stakeholder engagement, and develop project scopes and budgets.
* Contribute to the development of the Flood Risk Team through active participation in technical networks.
