Position: Senior Flavour Chemist
Location: Bluebird House, Leatherhead, UK
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Reports to: Managing Director & Operations Manager
Manages: 2 x Junior Chemists
About the Role
As a Senior Flavour Chemist, you will be at the forefront of flavour innovation, ensuring the highest standards in quality management while developing and enhancing our products. You’ll lead a talented team, collaborate with production experts, and make your mark in the dynamic world of flavour science. From formulation and research to quality system development and new product creation, your expertise will shape the future of our flavours division.
Your Key Responsibilities
Quality Management System Development:
1. Develop, re-write, and update the Quality Management System for the Flavours team.
2. Collaborate closely with the Production Team Leader to ensure seamless integration.
Flavour Formulation & Dilution:
1. Formulate unique flavour complexes tailored to customer needs.
2. Create accurate dilutions of cyclodextrins and excipients for diverse applications.
Scientific Research & Innovation:
1. Conduct literature reviews to support internal and client-driven projects.
2. Drive new product development to meet evolving market demands.
Process & Product Improvements:
1. Investigate and implement process enhancements with the Production Team Leader.
Supervision & Team Support:
1. Oversee chemical stock management, testing, and calibration of equipment.
2. Supervise supply orders and maintain high standards of hygiene and housekeeping.
3. Support the team with technical issues and operational tasks.
Flavour Standards Production:
1. Assist with the production of flavour standard complexes using nano-chemistry techniques.
Collaborative Tasks:
1. Maintain procedures, input packaging data, and ensure seamless team collaboration.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
1. Education: Minimum 2:1 or 1st degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
2. Experience: 5+ years of industrial experience in flavour science or laboratory management, with demonstrated success in a leadership role.
3. Skills:
* Strong problem-solving abilities and familiarity with ISO & Quality standards.
* Leadership and motivational skills to inspire your team.
* Excellent planning, time management, and decision-making capabilities.
Desirable:
1. Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a related field.
2. Experience in implementing and maintaining Quality Management Systems.
3. Knowledge of scientific research and industry-specific regulations.
