Opportunity
RelationRx has an excellent opportunity for Assistant Lab Manager to join an interdisciplinary, highly collaborative team of experimental and computational drug discovery researchers in our newly built state-of-the-art functional genomics lab in London.
We are looking for an Assistant Lab Manager to help ensure the smooth running of our laboratory facilities. As an integral part of the Lab Operations team, you will be responsible for routine lab support, managing inventory, overseeing equipment maintenance, and coordinating the upkeep of the facilities. Your strong attention to detail, dependability, and ability to collaborate effectively will be crucial to the success of our team.
Your responsibilities
* Assist in daily lab operations, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to SOPs.
* Monitor and restock lab supplies (chemicals, consumables, PPE) and support procurement processes: obtaining quotes, managing orders, and overseeing deliveries.
* Help coordinate equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, vendor management, and provide staff training for routine lab equipment.
* Maintain accurate inventory and records for chemicals, biological materials, and reagents.
* Manage housekeeping, organize storage areas (freezers, fridges, benches), and ensure lab facilities are accessible.
* Ensure safety documentation (e.g., Lab Handbook, risk assessments, COSHH) is updated and accessible to staff.
* Assist with lab inductions, safety drills and implementing and maintaining health and safety protocols in the lab.
* Serve as Fire Marshal and First Aider, and participate in safety improvement initiatives.
* Address building-related issues, coordinate contractor visits, and support emergency plans, including out-of-hours support for critical equipment or incidents.
* Ensure essential lab facilities (e.g., hand wash stations, spill kits) are maintained and accessible.
Professionally, you have
* A life science degree or equivalent qualification.
* 1+ years of laboratory experience in academia, biotech, or pharma.
* Familiarity with basic laboratory operations, including inventory management and equipment maintenance.
* Experience with BSL1 and BSL2 lab environments, including health and safety protocols.
* Familiarity with risk assessments, COSHH, and basic HSE regulations.
* Desirable knowledge or experiences: Knowledge of molecular biology or cell culture techniques.
Personally, you are
* Highly organised with excellent time-management skills and a keen eye for detail.
* Effective in both verbal and written communication.
* Able to collaborate seamlessly and build strong relationships across teams.
* Proactive and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities at once.
* Competent in using basic software tools (e.g., MS Office) for record-keeping and reporting.
