A little more about your role…
As Chief Substation Engineer working within the UK Energy business, you will be responsible for developing and leading a multidisciplinary team delivering the power transmission infrastructure that will deliver Net Zero to the UK Energy System. WSP has a significant workload that will offer the opportunity to develop yourself and others over the next decade, with over 20 substations to design.
As part of this, you will be responsible for:

This is an excellent opportunity to…
1. Provide Technical leadership to Substation design team, collaborating with internal and external parties such as equipment suppliers, manufacturers, service providers, and professional bodies, while fostering a positive team-oriented culture.
2. Communicate technical engineering issues to peers and senior management, advising on commercial impacts.
3. Ensure accountability for technical standards within the Substation team and provide final approval for documentation submissions.
4. Lead and motivate the team to develop and implement effective strategies, processes, and procedures for technical services.
5. Oversee every phase of the design process, from concept and feasibility to FEED and detailed design.
6. Lead health and safety, well-being and I&D initiatives within the team.
7. Create hour estimates for engineering activities to support business development efforts.
8. Recognise and reward outstanding work.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
1. Extensive experience of substation design – Particularly from 275 - 400kV.
2. Experience of team leadership and development.
3. Preferable - Experience of both AIS and GIS solutions.
4. Preferable - Chartered Engineer Status.
5. Preferable - National Grid TP141 HV Plant or Protection & Controls authorisation.
