Role Summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Specialist Spinal Rehabilitation team.
Our client has recently been awarded “spinal injuries team of the year” at the SIA awards 2024 and provide specialist rehabilitation for individuals from all over the UK and abroad who have sustained spinal injuries. Clients are admitted at different stages in their recovery, from major trauma centres, spinal injury units or other providers.
In this role you will have access to, and training with the latest rehabilitation technologies to enable an innovative and creative approach to rehabilitation.
The role of the Specialist Spinal Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist (OT) is to provide high quality holistic therapy to our clients throughout their journey alongside the inter-disciplinary team.
The Specialist Spinal Rehabilitation OT reports to the Lead OT.

Specific Responsibilities
* To deliver specialist OT assessment and intervention to clients within specialist clinical area
* To assess and provide OT assessment and intervention, addressing occupational performance in the areas of self-care, leisure and productivity
* To undertake the client key worker role within Rehabilitation
* To involve clients and carers in the development and delivery of goals within the rehabilitation plan
* To assess, implement and monitor individual client rehabilitation plans
* Carry out community visits to support a client’s goals and transition, for example accessible leisure activities
* Identify a range of specialist equipment to optimise functional independence, quality of life and manage risk
* To complete required documentation including clinical notes and comprehensive reports within a timely manner
* To ensure accurate recording and monitoring of relevant outcome measures
* To apply manual handling principles as outlined by legislation and department procedures
* To adhere to and carry out individual client risk assessments

Person Specification
Essential
* Registered with HCPC
* BSc in Occupational Therapy
* Postgraduate Masters level module in relevant subject or equivalent knowledge and skills accumulated through formal training and experience.
* Comprehensive post-registration experience, including experience at specialist/senior level treating Spinal Injuries
* Highly skilled in managing a complex Neurological caseload.
* Knowledge and experience in education, training and development of more Junior team members, assistants and students including appraisal.
* Specialist rehabilitation experience in treating clients with motor, sensory, cognitive, perceptual, emotional and psychological problems
* Knowledge in wheelchairs, seating and postural management
* Experience in assessing for equipment
* Setting and reviewing client centered goals
* IT experience including Microsoft Office packages
* Experience of working within governance frameworks e.g. clinical systems, data management, complaints, reporting incidents
* Creative, innovative, inclusive and engaging approach to client care
* Able to deal with difficult situations appropriately
* Excellent communicator both written and verbal. Able to demonstrate excellent listening skills
* Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to drive as part of role
