Our client is a business-to-business electricity supplier, operating in the Industrial & Commercial (I&C) segment of the retail energy sector. Supplying only zero carbon, 100% renewable electricity, sourced solely from solar, wind and hydro power, they are the largest renewable only supplier in the I&C retail energy sector.
They are now seeking a bright, motivated Legal Counsel of 3-5 years PQE on a permanent, part-time contract to provide high a quality legal service for the business. This is a new role within the Legal department, reporting to the Head of Legal. The role is based at their office in Birmingham and offers hybrid working arrangements.
As Legal Counsel, your focus will include drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, amending customer supply contracts, contract organisation / management and developing precedent agreements. You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering clear, efficient and value-added legal advice across the business.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide legal analysis and advice related to electricity supply contracts with customers, including drafting variations to standard terms and participating in negotiations.
2. Review public authority procurement agreements and frameworks as part of prospective customer tender processes and assist with ongoing management of these once onboarded.
3. Assist with preparing terms and conditions for new product offerings.
4. Draft, review and participate in negotiations of contracts between the business and third-party service providers.
5. Develop, build-upon and manage updates to internal precedents.
6. Provide in-house legal training to the business.
7. Deliver a contract management system.
8. Provide pragmatic legal advice to internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and contractual obligations.
9. Proactively engage with the business to understand its operations, products and strategic goals to tailor legal solutions effectively.
10. Collaborate across departments, working cross-functionally to ensure cohesive legal services.
11. Proactively identify legal risks related to a matter and recommend measures for mitigating such risks.
12. Manage relationships with external legal counsel, data protection and compliance.
13. Stay abreast of legal and regulatory trends, applying this knowledge to ensure business compliance and circulating to stakeholders where appropriate.
Requirements:
1. Good understanding of the energy sector, including energy trading is advantageous, not essential.
2. 3-5 years PQE in commercial legal work from a top tier law firm(s) and/or in-house.
3. Experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts, such as supply of service agreements, MOUs, NDAs, SaaS agreements and software re-seller agreements.
