Richard Buxton Solicitors are a small firm of dedicated environmental and planning law specialists. We are based in Cambridge but work nationally, with a reputation for taking on and winning ‘David & Goliath’ cases to protect the environment. We are seeking a highly motivated Practice Manager to join our team on a fixed term contract to cover a 12-month period of maternity leave. The successful candidate will be responsible for the smooth operation of the firm and will ideally have experience in HR and general office management within a busy law practice. The role will include but not be limited to: Organising monthly management meetings. Employee welfare. Supervising team of paralegals. Annual appraisal process. Training/career progression. Recruitment. Contracts – drafting and updating employment contracts; amending template contracts where necessary. Managing requests for: Working from home / holidays / sickness / absences / flexible working / etc. Office matters – responsibility for office supplies and equipment, office cleaning, phones, IT (dealing with directly or liaising with firm’s external IT support). Managing any relevant employees’ parental leave. Staff grievance/disciplinary process. Work experience placements – arranging and supervising. Policies – drafting, reviewing and updating our various policies in collaboration with others. Requirements: Friendly and approachable manner. Confident in all forms of communication. High level of organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to supervise and lead a team effectively. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. Experience in legal case management system an advantage.
