I am partnering with a client to hire a Senior Medical Writer (SMW) with experience in medical communications, specifically within the oncology therapeutic area. This position provides an opportunity for professionals with a strong scientific background to further develop their technical writing skills while gaining autonomy in a dynamic environment. As part of a growing team, the SMW will be responsible for producing high-quality scientific materials and contributing to the development of innovative medical communications across various platforms. Role Overview: The Senior Medical Writer will work on a range of deliverables, including manuscripts, congress publications, slide decks, and video scripts. This individual will play a key role in effectively communicating complex scientific information in a clear and accurate manner to diverse audiences. As they build confidence in the role, they will take on more responsibility, managing client communications, and leading certain projects. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and edit a variety of materials, including: Slide decks Video scripts Leave-behind pieces Website copy Manuscripts and congress publications Gap analyses Meeting summaries and reports Ensure that all materials are scientifically accurate, fully referenced, and aligned with client objectives. Present content updates to clients and collaborate with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and subject matter experts to develop or approve materials. Manage deliverables within the specified time and budget. Demonstrate expertise in client review and approval systems (e.g., Veeva, DataVision) and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ABPI). Take initiative in data checking, performing it accurately according to established processes. Provide constructive feedback and basic reviews for junior team members. Confidently lead meetings or deliverables, such as advisory boards, without senior supervision. Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge in oncology and relevant products. Research medical and scientific topics, using appropriate sources, and annotate those sources during writing. Stay up to date on the latest scientific developments and share relevant insights with internal teams and clients. Show flexibility in working across different client teams, deliverables, and therapeutic areas. Build knowledge of leading experts in oncology. Participate in client meetings, including project kick-offs and status updates. Provide senior team members with regular updates on account activity, foreseeing potential issues and escalating them when necessary. Manage time effectively to balance multiple accounts and deliverables. Ensure all tasks are completed according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and within deadlines. Escalate potential delays or concerns to senior team members in a timely manner. Work within allocated project hours, striving for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Maintain a target billability of approximately 85%. Complete timesheets accurately and promptly. Required Qualifications: Higher degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., PhD, MD, PharmD). 2–3 years of experience in medical writing within the medical communications industry. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a passion for creativity. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure. Experience working with clients and HCPs.
