Applications are invited to apply for the above Consultant post in the Department of Neurosurgery based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford.
The successful applicant will join a team of currently 13 substantive Adult and 4 Paediatric Neurosurgery Consultants. The focus of the post will be the management of Emergency and Elective Neurosurgical patients in Skull Base Neurosurgery. Appropriate administrative support will be provided for this post.
The Neurosurgical Department has Academic and Clinical Training programmes. The applicant will be involved in the teaching of both under- and post-graduates and training Specialist Registrars and Neurovascular Fellows. Close clinical ties with our Paediatric Neurosurgery colleagues exist, and teaching/audit is done jointly with the Paediatric Neurosurgery service.
Applicants should possess full neurosurgical training (FRCS (SN) or equivalent), and subspeciality fellowship level training in Skull Base Surgery.
The successful candidate will take part in a 1:11 on call rota with prospective cover
The postholder’s duties will be to provide in and outpatient care for Neurosurgical patients both Emergency and Elective, and subspecialty Skull base patients. Close working relationships with other members of the Neurosciences team will be necessary, this includes the Neuroradiology and Neurointensive care teams, the Skull Base MDTs, and Specialist Advanced Nurse Practitioners / OTs / Physiotherapists / Speech Therapists.
The post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching undergraduate clinical students, training junior doctors, multidisciplinary teaching and in clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity. The post-holder’s contribution to teaching, training and research will be included in the regular job plan review
