We are looking for ambitious Surveyors, Senior Surveyors and Associate Partners to join our growing Infrastructure teams in Scotland and the Northwest of England.
The team:
Our infrastructure team was formed in 2015 and consists of 200 experts operating from nine offices across the UK. The team is experiencing an accelerated growth stage following the award of several major contracts within the north of England and Scotland and we are looking for ambitious new members to join us in the next stage of our exciting journey of growth in our Edinburgh and Warrington offices.
The infrastructure team acts for a wide range of clients within the Infrastructure, Utility and Energy sectors. In the north of England and Scotland, we are delivering an expert service to clients such as National Grid Transmission, Cadent Gas, Scottish Power Energy Networks, Green Gen, Orsted, Network Rail and National Highways.
The roles will be varied, advising a wide range of clients and projects with the opportunity to focus on areas of interest. The roles include negotiation, client contact and reporting and support to and from Partners as well as guiding and directing Graduate Surveyors within the team. It provides an opportunity to build leadership and management skills, with excellent prospects for progression.
We deal with Infrastructure and utility projects affecting all types of property including coastal, rural, commercial, industrial and residential properties of all types and sizes. Main tasks:
* Client facing professional advice in relation to land assembly for utility and infrastructure projects.
* Assessment of Injurious Affection claims for Electricity operators.
* Negotiation of heads of terms, option agreements and voluntary agreements for land acquisition and compensation.
* Develop and undertake new business/relationship opportunities.
* Landowner and Stakeholder engagement.
* Client relationship management.
* Provide support to Partners in the team and manage your own workload effectively.
* Provide guidance and supervision to Graduate surveyors in the team.
* Participation in the ongoing development and implementation of an effective profit centre business plan developed in-line with the Carter Jonas vision.
* Take an active role in the development and implementation of efficient, ‘best practice’ internal systems and processes, optimising IT and other resources.
* Implementation of policy as required and ensuring legal compliance on all work carried out.
* Training, development and CPD needs will be discussed and supported.

What does it take to be successful?
You will ideally be MRICS accredited or with experience within the utility, energy or infrastructure sectors. Rural surveying experience could be beneficial as some aspects of our work cover rural property matters such as compensation for crop losses. You must also ideally be able to demonstrate you have a good working knowledge of relevant legislation relating to compulsory purchase and compensation as well as specialist utility acts such as the Electricity Act 1989 and have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
The roles have a significant amount of engagement with clients as well as landowners and agents therefore strong communication skills are essential. We would like you to have good time management and strong communication skills, including report writing. A business development-orientated attitude, with a focus on providing excellent customer service is key to this role as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where flexibility is essential.
If you have previous experience of driving projects forward and establishing new and develop existing relationship this would be advantageous. We welcome applications from the public or private sector or those returning to work after a career break.
