About The Role
Are you ready to lead the transformation of housing and corporate assets in one of London's most vibrant and diverse boroughs?
Islington Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as the Director of New Build Homes and Corporate Landlord Services on a fixed term basis until 31 March 2026. This pivotal role will oversee the council's ambitious housebuilding programme and manage our extensive portfolio of non-residential assets. As a key member of the Community Wealth Building directorate, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Islington, ensuring that our assets and spaces support the delivery of our community wealth building and broader council ambitions.
In this role, you will be responsible for four key functional areas: new homes delivery programme, community assets capital delivery, facilities management, and corporate asset management. You will oversee 250 full-time employees and report directly to the Corporate Director of Community Wealth Building. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include providing leadership and operational management, implementing the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), overseeing the new homes programme, conducting a commercial property portfolio review, and leading the FutureWorks programme. Additionally, you will serve as the principal advisor on property matters, ensuring that all initiatives align with the council's strategic goals and community wealth building objectives.
Your role will also involve developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including councillors, residents, and the general public. You will be expected to manage substantial budgets, monitor expenditure, and ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. By driving performance and setting high standards, you will encourage continuous improvement and support your team in achieving their goals. Your leadership will be instrumental in promoting the council's values and behaviours, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture, and empowering staff to reach their full potential.
The ideal candidate will have extensive senior leadership experience in relevant areas, particularly within London boroughs, as well as experience of member engagement. They will hold a relevant professional qualification, such as membership in the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and possess a proven track record of hitting the ground running. This includes successfully managing and delivering capital projects and programmes, leading diverse teams, and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.
