Job Title: Laboratory Manager - Grangemill
Job Purpose: To manage the day-to-day running of the laboratory and associated quality function at Grangemill, Matlock. To ensure the quality of materials produced is of the highest standards achievable, to manage and motivate laboratory technicians, to report on relevant KPIs and use these to drive continuous process improvement.
Qualifications: Degree level in a scientific field or demonstrated history of managing a laboratory ideally within the construction industry.
Principal Objectives:
1. To ensure the laboratory functions to a high standard.
2. Manage and motivate the laboratory staff.
3. Continuously monitor and improve procedures and methods to ensure an ethos of Continuous Improvement is maintained.
4. Ensure timely reporting of test results and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
5. Undertake complaint investigation on material issues and produce detailed reports.
6. Represent the company during third-party certification and ISO 9001 audits.
7. Write and maintain Risk Assessments.
8. Write and Maintain SSOPs.
9. Ensure internal audits are carried out.
10. Implement any corrective actions found.
11. Ensure that information specified on specifications is technically correct and in line with current correct codes of practice.
12. Forge close relationships with site Engineering and Production staff.
13. Provide technical recommendations.
14. Assist in the preparation of specifications.
15. Assist in the development and implementation of training materials.
16. Ensure that R&D projects are progressing in a timely manner.
17. Assist in the complaints/returns process.
18. Implement processes to ensure all technical inquiries are dealt with in a timely and effective manner, with relevant KPIs to measure effectiveness.
19. Ensure all sources of inquiry are effectively and suitably managed - website/phone/internal and external.
Person Specification:
1. Excellent management and interpersonal skills.
2. In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001.
3. Good knowledge of the requirements of a Factory Process Control system and CE / UKCA requirements.
4. Understanding of BS EN 13108 specifications.
5. Good practical knowledge of Asphalt and hot melt roofing applications.
6. Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
7. Good attention to detail.
8. Confidence to deal with people at all levels.
9. Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
10. Good report writing skills.
11. Comprehensive knowledge of BSI and Industry standards.
12. Excellent organization skills.
13. Good knowledge of IT software, specifically Microsoft packages.
14. Ability to organize working days in a logical manner.
15. Flexible in terms of traveling and hours.
