3 months contract with local authorityJob Purpose: Support the lawyers in providing legal advice to the Councils, Members, and Officers, and offer legal solutions in relevant areas to help the Councils achieve corporate goals. Assist lawyers and senior lawyers in delivering high-quality, solution-focused legal work across multiple disciplines and sites, within a shared back office support service. Provide legal and administrative support in children's and adult's social care, safeguarding, and education. Specific Responsibilities: Support lawyers and senior lawyers with a caseload of legal work, including personal responsibility for tasks such as: Conducting research Drafting court pleadings, statements, and correspondence Preparing bundles and instructions to counsel Communicating with customers and third parties regarding cases Attending court with counsel and meetings with customers and third parties Working autonomously to produce creative and innovative solutions to legal issues, with appropriate supervision as required by Lexcel Provide support for strategic projects across multi-functional teams, as needed. Carry out advocacy on preliminary matters when required, and avoid instructing external support except in accordance with agreed procedures. Collaborate with the Administrative Support Team to ensure all support tasks are performed at the relevant level. Advise customers on legal matters and liaise with other parties in proceedings, making appropriate decisions without supervision. Work some evenings, weekends, and occasional public holidays to meet service requirements and ensure appropriate representation of the Councils with residents, elected members, and external bodies. Perform other duties as needed, which are commensurate with the general area of responsibility and grade of the post.
