About the Role
We are seeking Bank Staff Nurses to join our outstanding Inpatient Team at Mountbatten Hospice, Hampshire.
The successful candidates will have excellent opportunities for training and development to enable them to expand their skills within Palliative and End of Life Care. They will be responsible for providing symptom management and complex end of life care to patients living with life limiting conditions.
The postholders will also be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based patient care and for providing invaluable support to the patients' family.
With the support of the Sisters and the Advanced Nurse Practitioners, they will be able to make a real difference to people's lives every single day supporting our patients and their families.
About You
You will be a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration, who is able to demonstrate a commitment to their own CPD.
You will have excellent clinical skills and experience and be able to work under supervision and on your own initiative to provide the highest standards of care and support to your patients and their families.
You will have good communication skills, with sound experience of symptom management gained with a Hospice/Hospital or Nursing home environment.
You will be willing to learn new skills and express a desire to develop your own practices.

Job responsibilities
Overview of Role
To ensure the highest standards of individualised care for patients with life-threatening diseases including providing support to their families and carers in a safe, friendly, and efficient environment.
To communicate with patients, families, and carers in a sensitive and empathetic way maintaining effective communication with multi-disciplinary team members. To work under the supervision and guidance of nurses and medical teams.
Although based on our Inpatient Unit, post holders may occasionally be required to work in other teams to ensure adequate staffing levels and to gain experience of the wider hospice delivery of care (e.g., Community Setting and Hazel Centre).
Key Tasks
1. To provide the highest standards of care to patients.
2. To lead on and coordinate assessment, planning, and evaluation of individualised patient-centred care.
3. Provide a holistic approach to all care provisions that is both sensitive and responsive to the patients' ever-changing needs.
4. To participate in the checking and administration of prescribed drugs (including controlled drugs) and other substances in accordance with Mountbatten policy.
5. To provide out of hours specialist advice by telephone to patients, carers, and allied professionals as required, alerting them to any significant matters.
6. To maintain appropriate written/computer records in all areas of clinical practice.
7. To liaise with medical staff to implement treatment and care, ensuring that medical instructions are carried out, monitoring, and reporting effectively.

Qualifications
* 1st Level Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
* Revalidation of NMC Registration
* Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development
Other
* Current Driving Licence with Business Insurance
* Physically capable of carrying out manual handling duties as required by this role
* Be prepared to assist with Hospice fundraising

* Willing to undertake further training as required including mandatory
Abilities
* Ability to be an effective advocate for the patient with multi-disciplinary teams across all healthcare settings
* Able to effectively manage own time and case load
* Able to work shift patterns on a rota basis including nights, weekends, and bank holidays
Experience
* Demonstrable experience of dealing with vulnerable adults in a care setting
* Experience of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and the ability to form good working relationships at all levels
* Awareness of palliative care issues
* Experience of working in a Hospital/Hospice care setting
Skills
* Strong communication skills to explain complex and sensitive information effectively in both written and oral forms to both patients, families, carers, and other professionals
* Understands specific needs of patients requiring palliative or end of life care
