Solar Technician Solar – Field-Based Role x 7
Location: Hampshire, West/East Sussex, Kent, East Midlands, South West, Suffolk, Essex.
£37,000 - £45,000 + shift allowance + overtime
We are seeking a Solar Technician to perform operations and maintenance on utility-scale solar PV plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role ensures safety, quality, and performance while working within an industry-leading renewable energy team.
About the Role:
* Field-based position with travel between sites
* Full-time, permanent role with weekend on-call duties (rota-based) and overtime available

Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure compliance with health and safety standards
* Conduct planned maintenance, inspections, and testing of solar PV and BESS equipment
* Perform fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repairs on AC/DC systems, sensors, and communication networks (RS485, Ethernet, fibre optics)
* Configure and update computer-based devices and firmware
* Manage and oversee subcontractors, ensuring quality and safe working practices
* Maintain accurate records and reports
* Travel required, including occasional overnight stays for training or site support
Required Knowledge & Skills:
* Electrical expertise: AC, DC, SCADA, instrumentation, and communications networks
* Strong understanding of solar PV technology (essential) and battery storage (training available)
* HVAC, fire protection, and security systems knowledge (desirable)
* Problem-solving skills with the ability to read schematics and technical manuals
* Computer skills for reporting and communication
* Strong safety-first mindset, communication skills, and adaptability
Experience & Qualifications:
* Approved Electrician with experience in MW-scale solar PV O&M
* DC and LV installation, fault finding, testing, and commissioning
* Experience working with SCADA systems, central inverters, and high-voltage switchgear
* Knowledge of Risk Assessments & Method Statements
* First aid and health & safety certifications (e.g., IOSH, SMSTS)
* Full UK driving licence
