The school is based near Leatherhead and they are looking for a care support worker – special needs. They provide support for primary, secondary and further education aged pupils who have a wide range of complex learning and behavioural needs. All students that attend the school have a designated Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) which details their specific needs in terms of the care and support they will have access to.
The school provides a unique, specialist environment that closely fits the needs and challenges that the students face. The school offers a highly specialised curriculum which aims to ensure all pupils can reach their potential. The students’ needs include Autism, Downs Syndrome, communication needs and they do require high levels of care and support.
The school is graded as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted with pupil progress and achievement ‘outstanding’ across the school. You will be joining a school environment that is made up of happy students and staff.
Summary of Responsibilities
1. Support students with a range of complex learning needs such as autism, Downs syndrome, speech and language challenges, and social, emotional needs.
2. Implement effective communication techniques in classes that range from 6-8 students in size.
3. Utilize therapy rooms and designated areas for specialist support from a range of therapists including SALTs, Occupational therapists, psychologists, and counsellors.
4. Adopt an Integrated Trauma Informed Approach and provide extensive 1-1 support for every pupil.
5. Use specialist communication methods such as Makaton and PECS.
6. Focus on preparation for GCSE subjects and build a curriculum that works for individual needs.
Qualifications
1. A psychology degree or specialist SEN training is highly desirable.
2. High levels of training and commitment to your professional development provided for those that have little experience.
Salary: £85 – 100 per day – 8.30am-3.30pm, with starts depending on your availability from February 25.
