All About the Role
Dragon Steel Services are one of the smaller sites within the Barrett Steel network. Highly successful and growth-minded, we have 4 operatives and 2 drivers, all operating under ISO 9001 and the strictest of Health & Safety standards and procedures. Machinery includes Mega, Bowmar & Weytrain bandsaws, 4 overhead electric cranes, and a selection of FLT’s.
Reporting to the Operations Director, the purpose of this role is to hands-on manage this brilliant team and undertake general site responsibility. Driving Health and Safety across the site fosters a culture of safety first. A strong focus on operational excellence, ensuring and improving a level of productivity, profitability, and efficiency which meets the site’s business requirements in line with our target for growth, whilst ensuring high customer service levels and achieving sales targets.
You will support with orders and work hands-on in operations during busier times and to cover any absences. The hours for this role are Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, although flexibility will be required.
Specific tasks include:
1. Oversee the day-to-day operations ensuring all goods are received, stock picks are carried out accurately, processing is complete, and goods are delivered on time in full.
2. Lead the team to meet & exceed productivity, operating cost, customer service, and quality target levels.
3. Ensure that all operations are conducted in a manner which fully complies with Health and Safety, Quality, Environmental and Group policies, and all relevant legislative requirements.
4. Be adaptable & flexible in approach to work to meet operational requirements, developing a “safety-first” approach through standardised application of lean techniques.
5. Ensure effective communication between operations, planning, and commercial functions to align customer demands with the constraints of operational capacity.
6. Ensure high customer service levels, personally working with customers to support the sales and commercial function of the business to help with achieving targeted growth.

Essential Skills for the role:
1. Have excellent management skills and be well-versed in managing and developing effective team working, able to muck-in and support in the warehouse as often as needed.
2. Ideally, have an excellent hands-on working knowledge of H&S Leadership and ideally be IOSH trained (however, not mandatory as training will be given).
3. Previous experience in a similar role within an operational environment ideally in a heavy industry such as steel.
4. Used to working in a flexible, results-oriented, team environment, build good working relationships with the team, site, and wider business.
5. Good computer skills with a strong commercial acumen.
6. Live within a reasonable daily commute to site.
