Clinical Photographer / Medical Illustrator

An opportunity has arisen for a part-time (22.5 hrs/pw) band 5 Clinical Photographer / Medical Illustrator, to support the photography team in Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen, for a 12 month period. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, who is able to demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
You will be required to undertake Medical Photography including Dermatology / Teledermatology, Ophthalmology (FFA), Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), General Surgery, Paediatric/child protection medical, bereavement and Orthopaedic photography and contribute to the Design Service to the Health Board.
Main duties of the job
1. Manage own workload on a day-to-day basis to meet the demands of the service. Make value judgements on the correct photographs to record in any situation, taking into account customer requirements and a wide range of technical, legal and social issues.
2. Work within the Professional Code of Conduct of the Institute of Medical Illustrators and follow local policies and standard operating procedures.
3. Maintain an up to date CPD portfolio to satisfy the requirements of The Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Accredited Register.
4. Demonstrate professional and patient management skills in the studio, clinic, wards and theatres involving tact and diplomacy to explain the need for clinical photographic records.
5. Undertake design projects for both internal and external digital publication or printing.
6. Communicate complex information to professionals and patients/carers, surrounding the use of clinical images; such as consent levels, confidentiality, distribution, copyright, security, data protection and Caldicott guidelines, always having an awareness of cultural and religious beliefs. This will include communicating with non-English speakers and those with learning disabilities.
7. Assist the Head of Photography in the forward planning, development and promotion of the service.
8. Potentially liaise with Social Services and Police regarding NAI, POVA and Child Protection photography/cases.
9. Undertake Health Board mandatory training.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to provide a range of photographic skills to aid in diagnostics, referral, clinical management and education, whilst working alongside a variety of multidisciplinary teams. These include use of specialist techniques such as teledermatology, ophthalmic imaging (FFA), as well as orthopaedic, surgical, bereavement and child protection photography, alongside producing high quality non-clinical corporate and commercial photographic service for the Health Board when required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc Hons, Post Graduate Certificate or equivalent in Clinical Photography or Medical Illustration.
* Hold a post-graduate qualification MSc in Clinical Photography or Medical Illustration.
* Academy for Healthcare Science AHCS registered Clinical Photographer or Medical Illustrator - Professional Standards Authority Accredited Register.
Experience
* Demonstrate post qualification experience in clinical photography.
* Experience in a university hospital department.
* Experience in FFA, OCT and, or Photo-Dermoscopy.
Skills & Attributes
* Demonstrate experience of digital photography.
* Show a good level of computer literacy, particularly with digital imaging software and design software.
* Video and audio capture and, or production skills.
Special Knowledge
* Demonstrate knowledge of clinical photography practice in a range of clinical environments.
* Demonstrate creativity in the interpretation of client's briefs, both clinical and nonclinical.
* Knowledge of consent, copyright, Mental Capacity Act and Data Protection in relation to clinical photography and video.
* Demonstrate some knowledge and understanding of current trends in the NHS & clinical photography profession.
Language Skills
* Welsh Speaker (level 1)
