Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.
We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the city.
Are you a qualified and experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) or Occupational Therapist (OT) looking to lead a pioneering team with a vision for inclusive education? Join the Therapies team at the London Borough of Redbridge, where you’ll have the unique opportunity to develop and shape a forward-thinking service dedicated to empowering children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
About the Role
As part of Redbridge Education, Access, and Inclusion Services, our newly expanded central team offers specialist support to a diverse range of schools and educational settings. In September 2021, we launched a dedicated, school-focused Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy service. We are now seeking a highly motivated and visionary Head of Therapies to lead and develop this innovative service for the most vulnerable children and young people.
In alignment with the latest SEND initiatives, including the recent 2023 updates to the SEND Code of Practice and the emphasis on multi-agency collaboration from local area SEND inspections, our service is committed to providing high-quality, integrated support across education, health, and social care. The successful candidate will bring clinical and managerial expertise to inspire, guide, and empower the Therapies Team in delivering exceptional outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
Key Responsibilities
* Clinical and Managerial Leadership: Lead, motivate, and support the Therapies Team to deliver excellent service to children, young people, and their families. Provide expert guidance that promotes professional growth and service excellence.
* Service Development and Innovation: Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) to enhance pathways and ensure the service remains at the forefront of advancements in SEND therapy provision.
* Sustainable and Inclusive Service Design: Create and embed an effective, sustainable service model that reflects the latest SEND best practices and addresses the needs of vulnerable children in a variety of educational settings.
What We Offer
* Professional Growth and Development: Access a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities and clear pathways for career progression.
* Supportive and Dynamic Environment: Work within a highly supportive management team committed to staff well-being and professional advancement.
* Competitive Benefits Package: Enjoy a competitive salary and pension scheme, generous annual leave, and a suite of lifestyle, retail, and leisure discounts.
Qualifications and Requirements
All applicants must possess:
* HCPC membership and relevant Royal College membership,
* A current DBS check (one will be requested for you if appointed) and Right to Work documentation,
* A strong background in either Speech and Language Therapy or Occupational Therapy, with a proven record of leadership and service development in educational or paediatric settings.
If you are ready to take your career to the next level and contribute to shaping a transformative and collaborative SEND service in Redbridge, we would love to hear from you. Join us and make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
If you would like to have an informal discussion about the role, you can contact Joel Kerr, Assistant Director of Education, by email; joel.kerr@redbridge.gov.uk to arrange a suitable time.
Application Process

Successful applicants will be invited to Interview on a rolling basis as and when their application has been successful.
All short-listed applicants will need to demonstrate proof of right to work in the UK. At the London Borough of Redbridge, we receive a high volume of great-quality applicants, we therefore may close a vacancy earlier than advertised. Early applications are therefore encouraged.
