Catering Assistant
The Catering Assistant is required to assist in the preparation of food, serving of meals and operating the cashless till system. He/she is also instrumental in helping to keep the kitchen running smoothly by making sure everything is clean, tidy, safe and hygienic. This role involves the operation of cleaning equipment and good physical health and fitness is paramount due to the nature of the physical demands of the job. Catering Assistants form part of the Catering team in school and report to the Catering Manager.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Basic preparation of food and beverages, including the preparation of vegetables and snacks using appropriate equipment.
* Simple cooking, including the reconstitution of prepared food.
* Organising and controlling food service points.
* Transferring and serving meals and snacks.
* Preparing the dining area
* Completing general kitchen and dining room duties including washing up, clearing away equipment.
* Cleaning the kitchen/servery, dining room and equipment.
* Recording temperatures for control purposes as required.
* Completing duties as delegated in connection with service provision.
* Carry out all duties in the working conditions normally inherent in the particular job.
* Complete all necessary administration.
Essential Criteria:
1. Applicants must be physically fit and able to undertake the range of duties outlined in the job description and duties.
2. Experience of working in a customer service or catering role.
3. Effective communication skills to support team working, taking of instruction and engagement with students and staff.
4. Effective organisational and planning skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
5. Motivation towards providing excellent food and customer service for our staff and young people.
Hours of Work: 30 hours per week - term time only
Monday - Friday 9:30am-3.00pm (30-minute unpaid break)
Salary: NJC Scale 2 (£12.26 per hour)
