Senior Fellow in Intestinal Failure and Clinical Nutrition
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
Applications are invited for a Senior Fellow in Intestinal Failure and Clinical Nutrition. The post could commence as soon as possible or from September 2025. Posts are fixed term until September 2026.
This post would provide excellent training to be considered in the future as a consultant in an intestinal failure and nutrition support team. The position would enable the successful candidate to develop complex nutrition care knowledge and skills (attending the HPN clinic and nutrition support team ward rounds), develop research themes and gain publications in peer-reviewed literature and presentations at conferences, ultimately aiming for a higher research degree. There is potential to develop enough publications and evidence to be able to apply for grants and develop a future research post in the trust.
Main duties of the job
1. Participate/lead the specialised nutrition support team ward round once per week, and an HPN clinic.
2. Perform elective endoscopy lists independently (potentially including a dedicated PEG placement list depending on experience), with commitment to one evening list a month and elective weekend working.
3. Provide clinical support to a gastroenterology clinic once a week, predominantly IBD.
4. Support the nutrition support team during the week.
5. Contribute to the community nutrition MDT.
There is a nutrition support team operating at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals, and on occasions, service commitment may be required, but is primarily based at QEHB.
