About this opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join the FinOps Engineering team within Enabling Services. In this pivotal role, you'll enable teams to build cost-effective solutions on GCP while maintaining agility and fostering innovation. This position is perfect for engineers who are passionate about optimising cloud usage, enhancing cost observability, and championing a FinOps culture.
What you’ll do
1. Partner with engineering, finance and product teams to drive cost-efficiency across GCP
2. Design and implement automation to boost cost optimisation
3. Build infrastructure and pipelines using Git, Terraform and Harness
4. Contribute to cost visibility by using cost and usage data to enable self-service reporting
5. Drive sustainable usage practices (e.g. terminating idle resources, autoscaling)
6. Translate technical decisions into cost impacts, surfacing trade-offs to customers
7. Work collaboratively across teams to embed cost-awareness into design, development, deployment, and monitoring
What you’ll need
1. Experience in a DevOps, Platform Engineering or SRE role, with strong hands-on experience in GCP
2. Clear understanding of FinOps principles and how they apply to engineering responsibilities
3. Experience of Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and Source Code Management using tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, Harness and Github
4. Strong understanding of GCP-native services such as GKE, BigQuery, Cloud Monitoring/Logging, Networking, Security and Identity & Access Management (IAM)
5. Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and Helm
6. Familiarity with GCP billing exports, BigQuery datasets, and cost management dashboards
7. Proficient in scripting using Python, Bash/shell
8. Experience in Agile working practices, Jira and Confluence
9. Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
It would be great if you also had
1. GCP certifications (e.g. Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, Professional Cloud Architect)
2. FinOps Foundation certifications (e.g. Practitioner, Engineer)
3. Familiarity with security tools e.g. Hashicorp Vault, Aquasec, Nexus IQ
4. Knowledge of observability tools e.g. Dynatrace
5. Experience in cost management tools e.g. Cloudability
