This vital role focuses on providing tailored support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ensuring they feel understood, respected, and empowered to succeed in a school environment. You will play a key part in creating an inclusive space where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. About the Role: As an Autism Support Worker, you will work closely with students, helping them navigate their educational journey while addressing their unique needs. The role involves fostering a supportive learning environment, implementing strategies to assist with sensory or communication challenges, and encouraging positive interactions in both academic and social settings. Autism Support Worker Responsibilities: Build positive relationships with students, fostering trust and understanding. Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to students with Autism. Assist students in managing sensory, communication, and behavioural challenges. Support class teachers in adapting lessons to meet students' needs. Monitor and record students' progress and behaviour, sharing updates with staff and families. Encourage social skills development and emotional regulation. Implement strategies to support transitions, routines, and daily activities. Collaborate with teaching staff and external professionals to create effective support plans. Provide a safe and calm environment, ensuring students feel valued and understood. Supervise students during non-classroom activities, such as breaks or outings. Skills & Qualification: Experience working with children or young people with Autism as an Autism Support Worker is essential. Any degree in Psychology, SEN, Education or a similar field. Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and related support strategies. A Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, or equivalent is advantageous. A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to students’ individual needs.
