Dunbar Primary School is a very large non-denominational primary school split over two campuses serving the community of Dunbar and the surrounding villages; the roll continues to rise as additional housing is built in Dunbar. The current roll is just under 1,200 pupils from Nursery – Primary 7. The John Muir Campus currently has fifteen P1–P3 classes and five rooms in our nursery. Within the John Muir Campus is the Local Authority Communication Provision (The Cove) for primary pupils. The Lochend Campus has twenty P4 – P7 classes.
Dunbar Primary School has a team of Deputes who support, and where necessary deputise for the Head Teacher across our two-campus school. This DHT maternity cover has responsibility for the Early Years.
All Deputes are responsible for shaping and driving our curriculum, implementing areas of our improvement plan and leading quality assurance to promote improved educational outcomes for all in our care. They are also responsible for all HR matters regarding their team.
The role of a Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher as required. The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Head of Education.
