We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and driven Upper GI and Hepatobiliary (HPB) oncology dietitian to join our Cancer and Palliative Care (CAPC) Dietetic team. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to set up and lead on a newly funded UGI+HPB dietetic service including the management of both inpatients and outpatients from curative, surgical and palliative pathways as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.
We are looking for a passionate and driven team lead with experience working within UGI+HPB cancer, service development and leadership to apply for this newly funded 37.5 hour band 7 post. Alongside new investment for a band 7 Head and Neck Lead, this post will share team lead roles and responsibilities for the CAPC dietetic team.
Main duties of the job
As a senior specialist UGI+HPB oncology dietitian, you will:
* Be clinically responsible for the nutritional care and management of UGI+HPB patients and independently plan, organise and prioritise patient related and professional demands daily.
* Provide an expert nutritional support and dietary education service for UGI+HPB oncology patients in Cornwall.
* Act as a specialised resource on nutrition and cancer for UGI+HPB patients, carers, medical staff, nursing staff, and other health care professionals at regional and national level.
* Provide education and training to medical staff, nursing staff and other health care professionals in the Trust.
* Provide team lead management responsibilities alongside the UGI+HPB clinical lead role.
* Take an active role in the research, audit and monitoring of this new service.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential
* Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, or equivalent.
* HCPC registered.
* Evidence of further formal study e.g. Postgraduate qualifications, (Postgraduate certificate/Diploma, Masters modules, or equivalent management qualification) such as PENG course.
* Clinical Supervisory skills course for student training.
Desirable
* Membership of British Dietetic Association including specialist group membership.
Experience
Essential
* Significant post qualification experience in UGI and HPB at band 7 level.
* Highly developed clinical skills and knowledge of cancer and cancer treatments.
* Comprehensive experience of enteral feeding including management of home enterally fed patients.
* Ability to demonstrate highly developed leadership skills.
* Proven experience of managing a service or change process.
* Able to work and lead under externally applied pressures e.g. deadlines, competing demands and priorities.
* Highly developed skills in managing staff, including managing challenging behaviours, emotive situations.
* Highly developed communication and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate contentious or complex information effectively.
* Comprehensive experience as a clinical educator of undergraduate students.
* Extensive experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
* Experience of working as part of the nutrition support team managing patients on parenteral nutrition.
