JOB TITLE: Assurance Engineer SALARY: £32,000 - £38,000 LOCATION: Bolton ROLE PURPOSE The purpose of the Assurance Engineer role is to carry out all aspects of product governance in relation to destructive & non-destructive testing (& assessments) undertaken on behalf of the business, ensuring product compliance with technical specification, assurance through certification, and programme adherence. This will be achieved through having a firm understanding of testing standards and their application, forging relationships with counterparts at UKAS certified test houses/ certification bodies, and control of all testing requirements throughout the business. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the control and management of all destructive and non-destructive testing activities/deliverables Production of testing strategy documentation to optimise the number of tests required to satisfy full package/ product assurance. Liaising with test houses (responsible for, quotations, dates, installation, and drawings) Attendance at tests (domestic and international), reporting all observations, identifying causes of failure, and proposing remedial works as required Final sign off of test products (FAT) prior to shipping, and following product installation at test facilities in advance of testing. Knowledge and application of all test standards ensuring test house compliance Work closely with Sales to identify NPD opportunities, and support composition of business cases for investment. Guiding the business’ Sales and Design teams on product viability per application/ specification Review tenders for assurance compliance, noting any assumptions and/ or deviations Maintain awareness of current technological developments and accepted industry standards Maintenance of test reports/ assessments on the Network Drive. Development of procedures relating to assurance as a subject. Production of all pre-test and post-test documentation as required by the business/ project Provide support to the wider project team, liaising with customers as required Complete adherence to ISO 9001 procedures for engineering department Responsible for achieving schedule adherence for all actions assigned to individual/ role Ensure personal objectives are completed in a timely manner, and contribute to overall departmental/ business objectives year-on-year EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the application of engineering standards Minimum HND in Engineering, preferably bachelor’s degree in engineering or science Experience in configuration management and destructive testing. Good knowledge of supporting constructions in test environments. Working knowledge of technical standards for design and testing relevant to BIIL core markets and products. Understanding of steel plate manufacturing principals and constraints (incl. welding). Understanding of load paths, failure modes, and operating limits of steel structures/ components. A focus on quality adherence and timely output. Ability to write technical reports and/ or specifications. Flexibility to work overtime to achieve project plan as required, with a desire to travel. Strong communicator with internal and external customers alike.
