Duckworth Books: Publicity Officer (9-month fixed term contract)
An exciting role for an enthusiastic team player at a fast-growing independent publisher
Duckworth is a publisher of quality non-fiction and literary fiction, founded in 1898 and since revitalised for the 21st century. In non-fiction, we publish across many areas, including memoir and biography, history, popular science, psychology and smart thinking. Our Farrago imprint is the home of ‘fiction to make you smile', publishing a wide variety of comic writing.
We're looking for a Publicity Officer who will be responsible for:
• Managing the Duckworth and Farrago social media channels (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Facebook). This will include designing and positioning organic, innovative content to promote our frontlist and backlist
• Helping to organise book trade events that promote our authors and brand
• Supporting in-house publicity campaigns, reporting to the lead publicist
• Identifying promotional opportunities and producing effective pitches
• Building and maintaining relationships with media contacts
• Generating publicity updates and reports to support the sales team
• Keeping records of all press, radio and TV coverage
• Performing general administrative tasks relating to publicity, including mail distribution and database maintenance
This role would suit an enthusiastic and energetic individual with a demonstrated interest in publishing who is eager to advance their skills as part of a small, friendly team. At least 1-2 years of publicity experience is essential; social media proficiency, confident communication skills and good knowledge of press and media outlets are required. You must also be able to source and organise information effectively, show initiative and attention to detail, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
You'll have the skills and passion to support the organic promotion of a book that maximises its potential for success through all the stages of its life. You will be dedicated, creative, an avid reader and a strong team player.
This is a 9-month contract, 4-5 days per week, with minimum 2 days per week at Duckworth's offices in Richmond-on-Thames. We welcome requests for regular homeworking days or flexible hours by arrangement. We are committed to being an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds who have relevant experience.
Salary range: £26,000-£28,000 pro rata, depending on experience.
Please apply with a covering letter and CV, addressed to Rob Wilding, Marketing Manager, via email to careers@duckworthbooks.com by 5pm on 26 August.
