About this opportunity
Crown has an outstanding opportunity for a Manufacturing Manager to head up the beverage can Ends Department at our Botcherby Plant located in Carlisle, UK. The Botcherby plant is one of Crown’s biggest in Europe.
The planned ends volume for 2025 is currently 6 billion, we expect this to rise to over 8 billion as a result of planned investment, making this an exciting time to join Crown.
With 3 can lines installed as well, our capacity is in excess of 1.5 billion cans with the potential to grow further.
The Ends Manufacturing Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager. The Ends Department consists of 3 Ends manufacturing modules, an Engineering Support Team, and a Quality Team.
The Ends Manufacturing Manager is an integral role in the Senior Management Team for the Plant. The purpose of this role is to efficiently manage all Ends Manufacturing operations, making effective use of resources to manufacture products that meet customers’ requirements whilst satisfying business objectives and targets.
Main Responsibilities
* Manage the operation and achieve planned profitability
* Plan, monitor and improve manufacturing performance to ensure lowest operating costs against industry and World Class Performance standards
* Define priorities and continuous improvement activities through the use of Plant KPIs
* Ensure that the Ends department is run and managed in collaboration with Safety, HR, Environment, Quality, Production, Engineering and Cost Control to ensure that shared goals across each function are met
* Build solid working teams within the Plant to ensure continuous improvements in all aspects of manufacturing
* Select, develop and train employees who are capable of contributing effectively to the business
* Enact effective coaching, directing and development of your team of first line reports
* Motivate and drive the team to achieve challenging business objectives
* Ensure the Health & Safety of the team in line with all statutory and company safety requirements
* Ensure that the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction are achieved by way of product quality, timely delivery and response
Required Qualifications and Experience
* Industrial or Mechanical Engineer, with a BS degree in an Engineering discipline or similar technical field
* 5+ years of experience as a Manufacturing / Production Manager either in the sustainable metal packaging industry or in another relevant industry E.g. automotive, FMCG, other raw material packaging etc.
* Proven track record of successfully managing skilled engineering teams to ensure they deliver on demanding KPI’s

* Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to balance the needs of both production and maintenance
* Flexible and adaptable to change
