What's involved with this role: Temporary Fire Safety Officer - Facilities Management Job Ref: Bury 0009 5E40 / 1 Pay Rate: £19.81 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours Role Length: This opening assignment is for 4 months City: Bury Office based The purpose of the role is to advise on fire issues relating to building structure and fabric, services, alterations and maintenance. Key Responsibilities: Communicate and liaise with Designated Responsible Persons to advise on the introduction and maintenance of appropriate fire precautions, risk control measures and manage fire safety compliance across the Council’s buildings. Liaise with the Lead Officer for Fire Safety in the H & S Team to ensure all fire safety arrangements across all Council buildings meet current legislative requirements, fit with the Bury Council H & S policy and meet all the appropriate compliance requirements. Write new Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) as required across all Council buildings and correctly identify appropriate fire risk precautions and control measures that need to be introduced. To include an audit of all fire safety arrangements at the premises, eg. fire alarm, fire doors, signage, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, fire drill arrangements, etc. Review, update and monitor existing FRAs on an annual basis or sooner if any significant changes have occurred and/or if there has been a fire or an intervention from the Health & Safety Executive. Provide fire safety compliance information reports to Senior Leader Team as required. Advise on new build fire safety requirements. Develop and update fire prevention strategies. General day to day monitoring of fire precautions. Monitor and mitigate unwanted fire alarm activations. Develop fire safety policies, procedures and arrangements in line with the Bury Council Health & Safety Policy. Qualifications: Level 3 qualification in fire safety and risk management eg. NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety & Risk Management or equivalent. An Institute of Fire Engineers approved qualification in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment. Degree level qualification in occupational health and safety management eg. NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent desirable. Skills & Experience: Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation. Experience of working and undertaking FRAs in a variety of workplaces, including for “Life Risk” sleeping accommodation establishments. Ability to maintain a quality information system, and experience of investigating incidents, including fires and of advising on appropriate fire safety precautions and fire risk control measures. Experience of applying fire safety, health & safety legislation and good practice in an advisory capacity and advising on the application of Passive and Active fire protection systems in a variety of workplaces. Experience of presenting and training to a wide range of audiences. Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to write reports and liaise effectively with colleagues, representatives from enforcement agencies and external contacts in a professional manner and contribute as a member of a team whilst using own initiative as required. Pro-active approach to fire safety and the development of a fire safety culture. Able to take ownership of, organise and prioritise tasks and workload from initial stage to completion to meet deadlines. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
