Locum Consultant in Allergy & Immunology
The post is a fixed term contract for a period of 6 months for 6 PAs.
We are seeking a dynamic Locum Consultant to join the Leeds Allergy & Immunology Specialist services at St James University Hospital. The appointee will become a key member of a dedicated and highly experienced multi-disciplinary team. The job is part-time fixed term locum compromising of 6 programmed activities, with supervision of the junior doctors and specialist nurses. There will be an on-call commitment of 1:4. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust makes up one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe housing over 2,000 beds and providing a range of general, acute, and elective services, together with a significant number of regional and supra-regional specialties. The department has recently gained QPIDS accreditation. We are committed to providing high-quality specialist care to patients suffering from allergic, immunodeficiency, and autoinflammatory disorders. Great emphasis has been placed on delivering a friendly, consultant-led, patient-centric service. Our multidisciplinary teams are a key part of our success and include anaesthetics, clinical nurse specialists, pharmacists, physician associates, and researchers. There is a dedicated outpatient and Day-Case facility.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should possess Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. Applicants should have established skills in Allergy & Immunology & diagnostic laboratory.
Job responsibilities
OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
The successful candidate would join the other 2 substantive consultants & 2 Locum Consultants in the team. They are expected to work closely with the current multidisciplinary team to sustain current capacity of Allergy & Immunology services with a view to expand in the near future, ensure the smooth flow from diagnosis to treatment & follow up, including developing innovative ways of working to sustain increasing patient load, contribute to the Immunology & Allergy on-call rota. Sustain the current capacity of the service for clinical allergy and immunology work, with a view to expansion following further development of nursing clinics and review of patients throughout. Ensure the smooth flow from diagnosis to treatment & follow up. Support development of Allergy & Immunology Service. Work closely multidisciplinary team & developing innovative ways of working to sustain increasing patient load.

Essential
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in managing patients with primary & secondary immunodeficiencies, drug allergy & chronic spontaneous urticaria
* Must be able to demonstrate higher training in Immunology
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances
* Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit
Qualifications
Essential
* MB BS or equivalent qualification. MRCP or equivalent qualification Certificate of completion of Specialist training in Immunology FRCPath or equivalent
* The appointee must hold the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, or equivalent, and have completed higher specialist training in Respiratory Medicine
* Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice
* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely
