Job Description Share Share Share SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary) Location: Newcastle Start Date : Immediate Salary Scale : £75-£110 per day Contract: Long-term, Full-time/Part-time GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant for a vibrant client secondary school in Newcastle. The successful candidate will work closely with secondary school students who have SEMH needs, offering support in both academic and personal development. This position is ideal for someone with experience in mental health support, special educational needs, or working with vulnerable children. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, your role will involve providing tailored one-to-one or small group interventions, helping students develop coping strategies, and fostering a positive learning environment. Responsibilities Of An SEMH Teaching Assistant Support students with SEMH needs in their academic and emotional development. Deliver one-on-one and small group interventions to address individual student needs. Assist in developing and implementing strategies for improving behaviour and engagement. Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide holistic support. Monitor and report on student progress, adapting approaches as necessary. Promote a safe and positive learning environment, ensuring safeguarding measures are met. Qualifications Required For An SEMH Teaching Assistant Experience working with children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) or special educational needs (SEN), ideally within a school setting. Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff. A calm, patient, and empathetic approach when dealing with challenging situations. Understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to child protection. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
