The purpose of this Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer role is to ensure the effective maintenance of all plant and equipment and ensure that the production plan is achieved. Duties Include Advising and assisting in the design of new plant to ensure that best practice for the maintenance of hygiene, health, and safety is adhered to. Ensuring all plant and equipment is maintained and in good repair, servicing is carried out within defined timescales, and all engineering work is carried out in accordance with best practice. Managing the services of external contractors to ensure work is completed to company requirements, within defined time scales, and adheres to Food Safety and Health and Safety requirements. Ensuring all plant and equipment are checked before the start of production. Ensuring the methods used for calibrating and checking measuring and test equipment and the calibrations carried out by the contractors are reviewed regularly. Identifying training requirements and ensuring all relevant personnel have adequate training and knowledge to operate machinery. Ensuring planned preventive maintenance schedules exist for plant, equipment, and building fabric in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and agreements by the company and repair and maintenance enable correct operation and function. Ensuring company policies, procedures, and standards are followed. Ensuring engineering records are accurately maintained and presented in a timely manner. Liaising with the relevant management regarding engineering issues which are detrimental to production requirements. Working Hours Base working hours are Sunday to Thursday 07.00-16.00 OR night shift - 21.00-06.00, with additional flexibility where required to meet the needs of the business and in the event of emergency call-outs. Essential Skills Nationally recognised Apprenticeship or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, plus ONC/HNC or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Bias Good communication skills Ability to develop good working relationships with managers in other areas of the business to deliver common goals in terms of profitability and provision of agreed service levels to customers Willingness to embrace change and the ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment The ability to read electrical/parts drawings Fault-finding skills and experience with corrective action Desirable Skills Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in a similar role 17th Addition (Electrical standards) Proven post-apprenticeship experience in an engineering environment within a similar food industry site, working to BRC standards A high degree of troubleshooting skills combined with the ability to make decisions and operate on your own A good understanding of manufacturing processes and procedures and experience in working within the fast-moving consumer goods sector A background in fresh, chilled meat/poultry is desirable but not essential, as full training will be given About Company The MJ Birtwistle food group started life as a family butcher over 100 years ago.
