As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Below are some of the activities you will be involved in:
* Create, maintain and communicate robust plans by recording and managing project timescales and resources (people, time & projects) and reporting progress, productivity, cause and effect, and advising project teams of forthcoming risks
* Engagement with project teams, and advise regarding mitigating inefficiencies, whilst devising solutions for improvement taking account of contract operations in line with business goals and objectives
* Provide forecasts against contractual milestones and key dates
* In conjunction with the Senior Planner/Planner, ensure that progress and productivity is effectively monitored against project plan, and that clear and appropriate reports are produced and distributed to the appropriate personnel in a concise and timely manner (e.g. Manpower Histograms, Progress Trackers & KPI Dashboards). Also to ensure that the inclusion of variations are communicated and integrated into project plans
* Regular attendance on projects to ensure accurate progress and project activities are monitored, and to ensure the project team are maintaining progress in line with the latest programme, and ensuring adequate resources are available to achieve the latest programme
* Produce resource programmes throughout the project duration commencing at tender stage of the project through to completion
* Liaise with our clients to ensure the latest information available has been shared
* Understand and assist in ensuring that all planning related activities are carried out in compliance with contractual obligations, internal processes and external legislation governing business operations
* Participate in internal integrated planning meetings with relevant project personnel to agree the team input into the project plan
* In conjunction with the Planning Manager/Senior Planner/Planner, input into contract reviews that are conducted in line with internal processes and requirements

* Be able to manage legal and contractual matters relating to the site and work within commercial and legal constraints to ensure effective project outcomes.

* Be able to identify, obtain and process information required to manage projects.
* Be able to manage risk and plan for its mitigation to minimise its impact.
* Be able to manage and appraise team members and specialist contractors, build teams, advise on development and resolve conflicts to ensure effective teamwork.
* Be able to identify areas for improvement, and implement innovative solutions.
* Be able to effectively manage and supervise specialist contractors and operatives during the construction phase.
* Be able to identify and rectify common defects in construction activities.
Your training plan
* 3 years study part-time + 6 months for EPA
* Block release learning at Sheffield Hallam University (4 x 1-week blocks in Feb, May, Sept & Nov)
* Regular progress reviews to discuss expected progress v actual progress/interventions/additional support
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
* Five GCSEs including Maths, English and Science (grade 4/C or above)
Other in:
* in a Construction related subject (grade Level 4)
Desirable qualifications
Other in:
* Building Services (grade Level 4)
